Welcome to my nightmare!

Most people on the net know me as Shags. I've been working in the PCC under various contracts since '92, when Ricky was foolish enough to take me on for a placement year. Try as he might he hasn't been able to get rid of me yet!

Work

The project that I've been assigned to at the moment is a collaboration with the Ordinance Survey people and is the development of a parallel application to convert graphics data to another format.

In the past I have spent a lot of time searching the net for various utilities, from archivers to compilers, and installing them on our Suns. So, I'm usually first in the firing line when we run out of disk space. I've had the opportunity to work in all sorts of fun environments; Unix/C, VMS/Fortran, Macs and even had to use the odd PC (but I did wash my hands afterwards!)

Hobbies/Interests

For most of my university career I have been committed to avoiding any strenous physical activities other than the walk from the city centre up to QUB. I feel that this is the key to eternal youth, although we all hope Ricky will share his secret someday (the legend is that, at birth, he was dropped into a mystical fountain of youth hidden somewhere in the Black mountains). I hope that if I stick to this ideal that, in time, I will be able to achieve that weight of authority carried so well by our larger than life Assistant Dean, Dr. Milligan

When not insulting or generally annoying anyone, I like to coax some blues out of my guitar. Some day I will master "Eugene's Trick Bag" (refer to the movie "Crossroads"), and after a year I can almost play the first bar. When I do want to annoy my colleagues I scan in their pictures and do some morphing at home on my Amiga.

Stuff You Can Ask Me

If I don't know the answer, I usually know a man that can!

*Hmmm, not strictly work related.

Stuff You Can Ask The Others

And don't forget to put lots of questions to the other members of staff, who are eager to hear from y'all!
