- knowledge of Unix as a user - familiar with user commands such as ls, cat, cd,...... and one of the common editors such as vi or xedit
- elementary familiarity with system administration of Unix - host file; password file; IP addresses etc.

- Utilize idle time on existing workstations
- Low cost entry level parallel machine for:
- training
- application development
- production runs
- Low cost alternative to high performance parallel machines
