HPC Training & Education Centre - OutReach
As stated in the introduction, one of the goals of the centre is
to attract new users/disciplines to making use of the HPC. In
other words, the centre aims to support teaching and encourage
the adoption of High Performance Computing within the academic
curriculum.
This area will increase the awareness of the potential for HPC
among traditional users of HPC, scientists and engineers, and
in addition other disciplines that would benefit from the use
of HPC. The approach being taken is:
- identify individuals within the HEI's with a positive overview of institution's requirements;
- identify the departments likely to respond favourably;
- discuss with members of these departments the current methods of using information technology in training and identify those areas where HPC would be applicable;
- prepare and present seminars and or demonstrations;
- follow up by contacting individual attendees with a view to identifying their needs and obtaining feedback on the presentation.
A set of generic seminars will cover the areas:
- HPC awareness:
- Architectural variations
- Programming models
- Message Passing
- Programming Languages
- Clustered Computing:
- Exploiting spare cycles for batch processing
- Virtual Parallel Machine
- Visualisation:
- Understanding large datasets
- Packages such as AVS, PV Wave
- Data Mining
